2008 – 2009 Concert Schedule

SPECIAL EVENT – Bluegrass, Barbeque & BOOM!

Join us for this exciting event at The Dawes Arboretum. Gates open at 3:00, music starts at 3:30 with Frosty Morning Bluegrass,featuring Kenny Sidle. Next up, The Dappled Grays from Atlanta, GA. Followed by world-class fiddler Andy Carlson taking the stage with his band. Andy will then be joined by the Newark-Granville Symphony Orchestra. And for the grand finale, Newark-Granville Symphony Orchestra will perform against a backdrop of fireworks. Pack a picnic or enjoy barbeque from local area restaurants. Great music plus fun activities for your whole family. Don’t miss it!

Licking County, USA – Celebrating 200 Years

Licking County’s bicentennial will be a multi-media extravaganza and a patriotic celebration of our county and our country, featuring a narrated rendition of “A Lincoln Portrait”, a photo montage of Licking County set to “An American in Paris”, and several other quintessential American pieces.

A Joyful Noise

“A Joyful Noise” kicks-off a new holiday tradition – joining orchestra and chorus together for a full-scale musical celebration of the season. Sure to become a holiday favorite year after year, the Newark-Granville Symphony Orchestra will be joined by the high school choirs of both Newark and Granville for a festive concert of favorite seasonal music.

Sweet Serenades

“Sweet Serenades” will be a concert sure to tug the heart strings. Melting away the winter chill just in time for Valentine’s Day, the orchestra will perform two of the world’s most beautiful and romantic serenades and include feature performances by Salvatore Champagne, tenor, and Kim McCann, horn soloist.

From Cartoons to Car Chases –A Night at the Movies

This pops concert will have you on the edge of your seat as orchestral music from the movies takes you on an exciting ride to Hollywood. Plus, the winner of our third annual Young Musician’s Competition will perform with the symphony!

In Full Bloom – A Spring Finale

This rich and eclectic concert will feature a beautiful composition written by local rising star, Ching-chu Hu, music chair at Denison University, and a special guest performance by the wildly talented pianist, Tianshu Wang, playing Ravel.
